2000 Season Chronology:

June 23, 2000

Karen threw 48'10.25" to take fourth place at Junior Nationals behind rivals Gerraughty (50'10.25"), Cosby (50'3"), and Camarena (48'10.75"). Karen got her top throw on her fifth attempt to end her competitive season. Now it's time for Olympic Development Camp, and then on to training for next year!

June 16, 2000

Karen took 2nd Place with a 50'6.75" toss at the Footlocker National Scholastic Outdoor Championships in Raleigh, NC. Karen's mark is number 3 on the Footlocker All-Time list behind 2000 champion Laura Gerraughty at 51'11" and 1997 champion Krista Keir at 50'7.5".

June 10, 2000

Karen won the 41st Golden West Invitational shot with a throw of 48'9.5". This is the 4th best mark in the history of the meet. Once again, UCLA-bound Jessica Cosby of Cleveland was hot on her heels for second place. Third place went to North Dakota thrower Briona Reynolds. Karen was very happy to bring home the GWI watch and medal.

June 3, 2000

Hooray!!!!! Karen won the State Championship with a toss of 50'7.25". The competition was outstanding, with Jessica Cosby taking 2nd with 49'0.75" and 1999 State Champ Jill Camarena taking third at 48'1.25". This was the farthest winning mark in California State competitions since Kristin Heaston's 1993 win. Next stop? Golden West in Sacramento! Stay tuned!

May 26, 2000

Karen won CIF Masters in the shot for the second year in a row with a throw of 49'1.5". She enters the State meet next Friday as the number one qualifier, with Jessica Cosby and Jill Camarena close by.

May 20, 2000

Karen won the CIF Division II shot put for the second year in a row with a throw of 49'0.75". Her nearest competitor was about 9 feet behind. Karen enters CIF Masters competition next Friday, May 26 at Cerritos, as a clear favorite to repeat last year's victory. CIF Masters represents over 500 schools with 12,000 athletes.

May 12, 2000

Karen took 1st in CIF Division II Prelims in the shot by almost ten feet with a throw of 49'1". She didn't qualify in the discus after fouling her second and third throws. We're still happy with the progress this year to 140' and will work on this for 2001.

May 4, 2000

Karen won the Northern League shot title with a new PR of 50'10.25". Her series was as follows: 50'10.25", 50'10.25" (!!!!), 46'11.5", 50'1.25", 50'8.5", and 49'4.25". In all, five of her six throws were better than her previous PR. The fourth place in the discus at 126'3" was still a good enough mark to qualify for CIF.

April 22, 2000

Karen won the shot at the SLO County Meet with a meet record 48'4.75", and took second in the discus with a throw of 135'2".

April 15, 2000

Karen became one of the rare two time winners of the Mt. Sac Invitational with a 1st place in the shot. It wasn't such a great day in the discus, but those things happen....

April 1, 2000
Atascadero, CA

Karen improved her PR to 49'2", setting new SLOHS and meet records at the Atascadero Invitational.

March 25, 2000
Santa Barbara, CA

Karen had a double win in the shot (47'2") and the discus (136'2") at the Santa Barbara Relays. The shot mark extends Karen's meet record set last year (44'11") and raises the SLO school record for the third time in 9 days.

March 18, 2000
Camarillo, CA

Karen won the shot (46'8") and the discus (137'0") at the Channel Coast Relays. The mark in the shot is another SLOHS record. Karen has the meet record for Channel Coast in the shot and is now #4 on the discus all-time list for the meet.

March 16, 2000

In her first dual meet of the season, Karen won both shot (46'2") and discus (130'10"). The shot mark is a new San Luis Obispo High School record.
